R-2 Deja Vu Limited Edition Sam Lyons Print

Sorry to disappoint fans of The Force, but no Star Wars characters appear in Sam Lyons' R-2 Déjà Vu. Instead, the star of this 17" x 22½" illustration is an R-2 unit of a different variety: a Granville Brothers Aircraft Gee Bee R-2 Racer. However, a brief glance at the subject's distinctive cowling and cartoonish body does make one wonder where George Lucas got his inspiration for everybody's favorite astromech droid. As is characteristic of all Gee Bee variants, this image's R-2 sports an animated body and similarly spirited paint job that's identical to that of the legendary airplane it honors.
