Description
The Airbus 340-300 is one of the few four-engine aircraft still in service. First flown in 1991, 379 were built. Production ended in 2011. Air France and Lufthansa were the first airlines to adopt the Airbus 340-300. As of 2019, Air France had only four A340-300s in service, scheduled to be replaced by the two-engine A350-900 wide-body airliner with Extended-range Twin-engine Operational Performance Standards (ETOPS). They were certified for twin-engine aircraft operating long distances overwater. Interesting fact: Airbus considered using variable camber wings, i.e., being able to change the shape of the wing in flight.
